| Sham inspects Rs.69.70 cr Tawi Barrage project, directs for timely completion | | | JAMMU: The work on Jammu city’s prestigious beautification project across river Tawi is in full swing and about 85 percent civil and 65 percent mechanical works have been completed till date.
The Tawi Barrage project, which is popularly known as artificial lake, is likely to be accomplished within the revised scheduled time i.e December 2013. Out of total project cost of Rs.69.70 crore, an amount of Rs.46 crore stands incurred till date.
This information was given to the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma during his visit to the project site here today by the Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Jammu.
Referring to delay in completion of the project, the Minister said that due to incessant rains in the months of January and February the work on this venture could not be done in this period and so the completion date was revised to December 2013 instead of July.
The Chief Engineer apprised the Minister of the progress on the project besides telling him certain hurdles in smooth execution of the same.
He also briefed the position of 13 drainage nallahs from Panjthirithi to Barrage site which fall in Tawi and create heavy pollution.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to make a comprehensive plan in this regard so that the flow of these nallahs could be diverted from Tawi.
Sham also directed the engineers and executive agencies to further speed up the pace of work to accomplish the project by the fixed time. He directed for ensuring quality material in the project as per laid down specifications of the project.
The Minister said that this artificial lake is a prestigious project for Jammu city which would further add to beauty of the city of temples thus enhancing tourist influx to the region.
The Chief Engineer, I&FC, Varinder Badyal, SE Hydraulic, Rajeev Malhotra, senior engineers of executive agencies also accompanied with the Minister. |
