| Asgar reviews functioning of Sericulture Deptt | | | JAMMU: To review the functioning of Sericulture Department, Commissioner Agriculture Production Department, Dr. Asgar Semoon conducted extensive tour of Rajouri and Poonch districts. The Commissioner was accompanied by Director Horticulture, Mr. Arun Sharma, Director Agriculture, Mr. Ajay KJhajuria, Additional Director, Mr. M.L. Chadgal and other concerned officers. Additional Director apprised the Commissioner of financial and physical achievements made by the department in Rajouri and Poonch districts. He told that 602 MTs of cocoons have been produced in Jammu province, of which, 227 MT have been produced in Rajouri. Besides, Rs. 772 lakh revenue has been generated by the farmers in Jammu province, of which, Rs. 325 lakh revenue generated from Rajouri district. It was also apprised that 13.50 lakh Mulberry plants have been planted in Jammu province, of which, 2.80 lakh planted in Rajouri district and 1 lakh in Poonch. The Commissioner also inspected the Mulberry Nursery Chityar (Kallar) and interacted with the farmers and enquired about the facilities being provided to them. It was apprised that about 60000 mulberry plants are being produced per annum in the Mulberry nursery established in an area of 29 kanal. The Commissioner asked the officers to work with dedication and commitment for welfare of the farming community. He also announced an award of Rs. 10,000 to Nursery Incharge, Mr. Dharm Pal of the department for his commendable job in the field. The Commissioner also visited Cocoon Auction Market, Nowshera and was apprised that Rs. 1 crore have been earned by the farmers on account of sale of their production till date. He also visited Mulberry Nursery Nowshera and inspected the ongoing construction work of market building. He issued on-spot instructions to Executive Engineer (H&P) Horticulture and Marketing Jammu to complete the work within specific time period. |
