SRINAGAR : Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora Saturday said that efforts are on to give a new face lift to Bemina Housing Colony by providing all basic facilities, like drainage, sewerage, macadamized roads would be covered under latest technology and fool proof planning system, so that the residents of the colony may not face any kind of inconvenience particularly during rains or snow season. The Minister was addressing a large public gathering after laying foundation stone of Integrated Drainage System at Mini Housing Colony, Bemina Srinagar coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.50 crore. He said that it was long pending demand of the public which has been fulfilled and the work on the said project would be started on war footing manner, so that the problem of frequent water logging being faced by the residents of the colony would get solved forever. He said once the project would be completed, the drainage system would be connected with the pumping Station of the ERA opposite Hajj House Bemina. He said that the new drainage system would go a long way in fulfilling the long pending demand of the residents for flushing of sewage and rain water from the area. The Minister further said Srinagar Development Authority has initiated flagship projects including construction of 500 residential apartments, development of an integrated housing /business hub at Railhead Nowgam and commencement of work of development of Sangarmaal Phase-II. He said that land acquisition process for development of an Integrated Satellite Township on around 4500 kanals of land at Rakh-e-Gund Akshah has also been speeded up to address the mounting demand for housing in Srinagar. On the occasion, MLA, Batmaloo, Mr. Mohammad Irfan Shah, Commissioner-Secretary, Housing and Urban Local Bodies, Mr. Jeet Lal Gupta, Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Mr. Mohammad Shafi Rather were present. Later, Mr Jora also inaugurated double storeyed Chinar Marriage Hall at Boatmen Colony Bemina constructed at a cost of Rs.1.04 crores against an estimated cost of Rs.1.50 crores. He said the newly constructed Marriage Community Hall can accommodate one thousand persons at a time and can be a great helpful to the local residents in providing accommodation at the time of marriages or other social ceremonies. The Hall comprises two big halls, four rooms with attached bathroom, four wash rooms and separate waza shed. On the occasion, Mr. Jora directed VC for developing at least 10 parks and one marriage hall at Masoor Colony. MLA, Batmaloo Mr Shah thanked for taking bold initiatives of taking keen interest in solving the long pending drainage problem of the residents, besides inauguration of marriage hall for economically weaker sections of the society, Boatmen colony Bemina. He said the facility would prove highly useful for the people during their social events. VC, Mr. Rather said that similar facility is being extended by Srinagar Development Authority in the Old City of Rajouri Kadal, which would be also dedicated to the people shortly. Director, SDA, and other various concerned Officers were present on the occasion. |
