SRINAGAR, July 11 : According to District Magistrate Srinagar, in the interest of health care of patients under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products within 100 yards of all Hospitals is banned. As such Medial Superintendents of all Hospitals in the district shall ensure that no sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products be allowed within 100 yards around their institutions. The violation, if any, shall be intimated by the concerned Medical Superintendents to the concerned authorities so that the shops of defaulters are sealed. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, Srinagar in another order has banned the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to the persons below 18 years of age and within 100 yards of all educational institutions. According to the communiqué, any shopkeeper found selling Gutkha or tobacco products to persons below 18 years or within 100 yards around any educational institutions shall be liable to fine as well as cancellation of registration of their shop. The violation, if any, shall be informed to the Chief Education Officer and other concerned authorities for immediate action. |
