KATHUA, July 11 : Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperatives, Finance and Planning, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma said that government is keen to uplift the socio economic status of the people of kandi areas for which necessary infrastructure in key areas like roads, drinking water, education, health and electricity is extensively strengthened within short span of time. He said this while addressing a Public grievance camp here at Patyadi village of tehsil Hiranagar today. Dr Sharma added that kandi areas due to their topographical character are prone to water deficient summers and called upon the people to adopt means like rain water harvesting and check dams to help in improving water table in the area. He said kandi areas of Hiranagar and Billawar are blessed with scores of nallahs and kools which during the mansoon witnessed floods every year. He said the need is to channelize the rain water through check dams to improve ground water table as well as surface water Earlier on the arrival Dr Sharma was accorded a warm welcome by the locals. Representatives of lower Mela, Patyadi, Sallan, Upper Mela, Kasba, Dhalli, Dinga- amb projected issues, demands and problems of their areas which mainly include Patyadi- national highway link road, repair of Dayala Chack- challian road, funds for play ground at Mela, pending MGNREGA payments, tube-well for Mela, electric poles for the Mela panchayat, problem of monkey menace, community hall and early commissioning of tube wells and water supply schemes in the area. Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma while responding to the problems and demands projected in the grievance camp assured for early redressal of their problems. He passed on spot instructions to the officers of concerned departments to mitigate the sufferings of the people in a time bound manner. He directed XEN PWD to make DPR of 1 km Patyadi- National Highway Link road and to undertake the repair work of Dayala chack- Challain road. He passed instructions to BDO Hiranagar to clear the pending MGNREGA payments at the earliest. Dr Sharma announced Rs 2 lac each for Patyadi and Dhalli villages for development works besides Rs 50,000 for Bhanu Chack under Constituency Development Fund. The minister also distributed cheques among the beneficiaries of Patyadi and Mela village under Sanitation Programme of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. Among others Teshildar Hirangar, BDO Hiranagar, XEN PWD (R&B), Naib Tehsildar, CPO Fisheries Kathua, AD Fisheries Kathua and other district and tehsil level officers were present on the occasion. |
