Family health mela held to mark ‘World Population day’

SAMBA: A family health Mela was held here today to mark the ‘World population Day’ featuring series of awareness activities and overwhelming participation of the people.
Local MLA, Yashpal Kundal was the Chief Guest who also inaugurated the Family Health Mela in the presence of B.S. Jamwal, Additional District Development Commissioner Samba.
At the Mela different stalls were installed displaying various activities to be conducted in the World Population Fortnight starting today .
Addressing the gathering, MLA said that July 11 is observed as World Population Day all over the world for giving due consideration to the crucial issues such as the importance of family planning, including gender equality, poverty, maternal health etc. He further said that today, population explosion is one of the major concerns of the world. As the problem of uncontrolled population growth is giving birth to other major problems and there is severe need to check this explosion. ADC Samba, Bikram Singh Jamwal, also spoke on the occasion and said that. World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. Chief Medical Officer Samba Dr.Kartar Chand was also present on the occasion explained the importance of celebrating world Population Day.
A Nukkad Nattak, highlighting the importance of Small family, was also staged on the occasion for the awareness of the general masses.
Local Sarpanches, Panches, prominent citizens of District Samba, besides representatives of NGOs, ANMs, Asha Workers, and others were present.
