Sham seeks people’s support in eradicating corruption, social evils from the society

JAMMU: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma has sought people’s support to eradicate corruption and other social evils from the society. He appealed the people to be vigilant and take a fresh pledge to root out this evil which is eating the vitals of the society.
The Minister was speaking at an impressive function organized by Rotary Club Akhnoor, here today to mark the installation ceremony of Newly Elected President, Rtn Aman Gupta his team as a chief guest.
The Minister said that the corruption was a big challenge before the country and efforts are being made at different levels to fight it. He said need of the hour was to involve all sections of the society to work together to get rid of this menace. He called for launching a strong movement against the social evils which are becoming impediments in the development of the country as well as state. He also mentioned about the contribution of Red Cross Society and Rotary Club is national building.
Sham said that present regime has introduced revolutionary reforms in various sectors across the state be it health, education, agriculture, tourism, power, PHE and irrigation etc for the benefit, welfare and upliftment of socio-economic status of the masses.
He said that the benefits of restoration of peace are being carried to all areas in the shape of development and public empowerment.
He said that government has already transferred the power to grass root level public representatives to involve them in decision making and implementation of development programme.
The Minister appreciated the philanthropic work being done by the Akhnoor Club, saying that social work programme being conducted by the club is benefitting a large number of people. He said its work reflects how NGO’s, social organization can play an important role in transforming the society. He said civil society organization should also supplement the government efforts in taking the welfare scheme to the grass roots level. He hoped that such organizations will expand their activities in future also with added zeal and dedication.
The Minister also distributed prizes, certificates and trophy amongst the civil society and students who excelled in different activities. The club also provide sewing machines.
Sham whished the newly elected president and his team of Rotary Club, Akhnoor for the year-2013-14.
