| Various leaders condemn Kishtwar incident | | Appeal to maintain communal harmony | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 9: Voicing their grave concern over the loss of life and property in communal violence in Kishtwar, several political and social organizations viz a viz political leaders have strongly condemned the incident. Expressing his grief over the loss of property and sufferings to the people because of communal violence in Kishtwar which resulted in tension in the entire belt, MLA Jammu West, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta observed that it was highly intriguing that large scale violence and loot and arson have taken place when there were already reports about such trouble in the area adding that the place is being represented by the minister incharge Home and he happened to be there when all this painful situation erupted there. Prof Gupta demanded high powered independent inquiry into the whole episode including the role of the concerned Minister and other Government high ups who failed to take timely measures to check this loot and arson as also attacks on the houses of the people. He also demanded the deployment of the security forces and men of integrity to overcome the sad situation and restore confidence of the suffering people as also immediate measures to compensate the losses suffered by the shopkeepers and others who became the target of loot and arson for hours together in day light and the police looked like a spectator. Strongly condemning the incidents of arson, loot and violence in Kishtwar, the senior Congress leader and MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma has also expressed his concern over the communal tension. Demanding a thorough inquiry into the incident, MLC Jugal Kishore said that a fair probe should be conducted so that the miscreants behind the violent acts in Kishtwar can be exposed and brought to book. Appealing the people of Kishtwar to maintain peace and communal harmony, the Congress leader called upon them to remain vigilant against the nefarious designs of anti-social and anti- national elements. MLC Jugal Kishore also urged the district administration to ensure adequate security for the pilgrims of Machail Mata and to provide immediate compensation to those who suffered losses in the violence. Former Minister and senior Congress leader Yogesh Sawhney has also condemned the communal violence in Kishtwar and demanded magisterial inquiry into the incidents. Launching a scathing attack on State Government, Sawhney said that the incident occurred due the negligence of the administration. "How can such an incident happen when the higher ups in the government were physically present in the town. It is a major lapse on part of the government and responsibility should be fixed whosoever is responsible," Sawhney said. He appealed both the communities to maintain communal harmony and peace. Meanwhile, President Tehsil Thathri Development Front Kuldeep Kumar Rao and its Senior Vice President Kanwarjeet Singh Thakur have also appealed the public of Kishtwar in general and youth community in particular to remain vigilant and not fall prey to the machinations of the vested interests irrespective of their religion, caste and creed. The people should maintain peace and communal harmony in all circumstance, the TTDF leaders added. They lamented that the District administration Kishtwar had not taken any action against the miscreants who had raised "Pro-Azadi and Pro-Pakistan slogans" in Kishtwar after Eid prayers in presence of the police and the district authorities last year also. Had they been put down with iron hands before they would not have beenable to raise their heads now and in future?, the TTDF leaders said. Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has also expressed deep shock and resentment over the incident of Kishtwar where scores of shops and houses were burnt by the miscreants In a meeting of LJP held under the chairmanship of its State Working President Sanjeev Manmotra, the party leaders condemned the Kishtwar incident adding that it all happened in the home town of MoS Home Sajjad Kichloo, who was present in Kishtwar at Kishtwar but did nothing to control the situation. If the government is sincere than the miscreants should be exposed and brought to book so that such ugly situation do not occur again in future, the LJP leaders said. Former Mayor and corporators Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) have strongly condemned the communal riots in Kishtwar and demanded judicial probe. In a press statement issued here today, they criticized the state government for its incompetence to restore peace and communal harmony in the area. Former Mayor Narinder Singh said that it was a well planned conspiracy to vitiate the cordial atmosphere of the state particularly of Jammu region to polarize the society. He further said that it was surprising that Minister of state for Home Sajjad Kitchloo is himself camping in district Kishtwar still such incident happened. Among other who expressed resentment included Zaffer Javed Khan, Sanjay Mahe and Balwant Kumar (Billu). |
