| BJP calls for ‘Jammu Bandh’ alleging Govt respsonible for Kishtwar violence | | 'It failed to act despite inputs' | | Et Report
JAMMU, Aug 9: BJP staged strong protest against Kishtwar incident and held a massive demonstration in the city and accusing the State Government of giving free hand to hooligans and goons in damaging the private and public property. Various social and trade organisations also joined the protest march and accused the Government of its total failure in taking pre-emptive measures in containing the situation. BJP general secretary Bali Bhagat said that the Government gave free hand to goons and anti social elements in disturbing the law and order situation in Kishtwar and perpetuating a loot. He said that one of the Ministers in coalition was watching the situation like a silent spectator from guest house and he did not bother to issue orders to administration to quell the violence by taking stringent measures or imposing curfew. He said it was free for all in Kishtwar and the hooligans during the entire day resorted to loot and vandalism. The business establishments of minorities were looted and damaged. The hooligans soon after the Eid prayers resorted to violence to create lawlessness in the town by targeting the business establishments of the minorities. BJP has given the bandh call Saturday and demanded immediate sacking of Omar Abdullah led UPA Government. The BJP leader said despite taking up the issue with the IGP Jammu yesterday that certain forces were hell bent to communalize the situation in erstwhile Doda district by spreading canards against the VDC members the authorities failed to take any action in advance. He said that today's attacks were the part of a well planned conspiracy in which the involvement of the forces inimical to peace and stability in the state were also involved. He while making a scathing attack on NC and Congress coalition said that the coalition was fully responsible for the violence in which the property of members of minority community was damaged. He said that Congress should come clear on the issue and explain its role. If the party has the guts and it really believes in secular values it should come out of coalition at once. He said the people of Jammu will not spare Congress in case it fails to disassociate from NC whose leaders were spreading canards in the district through agents against the VDCs. BJP activists blocked National Highway at Kalibari Kathua for three hours and announced full support to tomorrow's bandh. Meanwhile the BJP held a meeting of its office bearers to discuss the situation and also finalised strategy for bandh. Earlier Party activists staged a dharna at Panjtirthi in protest against the Kisthwar episode. |
