PDP blames NC for Kishtwar violence, calls for communal harmony

Et Report

JAMMU, Aug 9: Putting all blame on ruling National Conference for violence in Kishtwar, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed surprise over loot, arsons and violence that continued for more than ten hours in the town and adjoining localities while Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo was himself sitting in the town.
In a statement issued here today, Ved Mahajan, former MLC and senior leader of PDP said that it was a historical fact that NC always propagated divide and rule policy and today's incident at Kishtwar was result of such divisive policy of the NC.
Mahajan said that for the last one month, members of the minority community were airing apprehension about activities of some anti-social elements but authorities have failed to take preventive measures.
He said that presence of Minister of State for Home in the town and continuation of the riots for more than 10 long hours reflects deep rooted conspiracy in today's incident.
"The riots started at 10 am and continued till 7 pm and authorities failed to take any step in this regard which is a clear indication that authorities have directions from higher ups to allow the situation to take ugly turn so that NC leaders could reap political benefits of such tragedies", he said.
Mahajan, while demanding adequate compensation for the affected families, said that there was a need to inculcate confidence among all sections of the society especially among minorities. State secretary of PDP Surinder Choudhary, while condemning today's violence at Kishtwar, regretted that for petty political gains ruling National Conference was playing with fire.
He recalled that in 2008 it was National Conference that instigated people and fueled communal tension.
He said that National Conference is a party which always divide people for political gains on the name of region, religion and caste. He also lambasted Congress, which claimed to be secular, for enjoying power with a party like National Conference which has been brazenly propagating divisive policies for small political gains.
