| Tragic accident claims nine lives in Uri, CM announces relief | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Aug 9: In one of the tragic accidents in Kashmir valley in recent past nine persons died while as four others were injured when an overcrowded Tata Sumo plunged into a deep gorge in the Uri area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. The deceased as well as injured were returning after offering Eid prayers. Meanwhile, the state government has announced ex-gratia relief of one lakh rupees each for the nine killed persons while as Rs. 10,000 each have been announced for the medical treatment of the four injured persons. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and some of his cabinet colleagues have expressed shock over the accident and conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved families. Reports said that Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK-05B 4420 fell into a 400 feet deep gorge in the Barnate area of Uri town in North Kashmir. The persons boarding the Tata Sumo were returning to Barnate after offering Eid prayers at Boniyar. A pall of gloom descended on the Barnate village as the news about death of nine villagers was received. The deceased were identified as Abdul Majid Ganaie, Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, Abdul Qayoom Mir, Abdul Rashid Shah, Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, Jamsood Iqbal Mir, Ghulam Hassan and Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, all residents of Barnate Boniyar. Four critically injured persons were referred to hospitals in Srinagar for treatment. In his condolence message to the bereaved families, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has conveyed his grief and sympathy to them. He sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs. one lakh for the deceased and Rs. 10,000 for the injured. The Chief Minister directed the District Administration and Health Department for providing all possible medicares to the injured. He has prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and early recovery of the injured. The deaths have also been condoled by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Member Parliament Mohammad Shafi Uri. Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din and Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan have also expressed deep grief and shock over the loss of precious human lives in the tragic road accident. |
