Sports Reporter JAMMU, Aug 28: Jammu and Kashmir Rural Sports Club celebrated Janamashtami- the birthday of Lord Krishna, in a different way. The Club involved young men in sports activity making the occasion National cultural heritage promotion divas with an aim to strengthen social bonds, communal harmony, peace tranquility and brotherhood. A day-long exhibition triangular cricket tournament was organised at Miran Sahib in Tehsil R S Pura. Daring XI Club won the tournament with Young Stars Club and Gobindpura Sizzlers finishing second and third respectively. Earlier, in the decider, Daring XI made 85 runs in given 10 overs, which, in reply, Tanveer Singh led Young Stars could not chase and bowled out for 80 runs. In the opening match, Vismadh Singh-led Daring XI beat Gobindpura Sizzlers by a narrow margin of two runs. Batting first, Daring XI set a target of 89 runs, which, in reply, Gobindpura could not chase and lost all their wickets for 86 runs in 9.1 overs. Guneet Singh, Hamandeep Singh, Ramneek Singh and Tarvinder Singh were adjudged best bowlers while best fielders trophies went to Sukhpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh and Iqbal Singh. Before start of the competition, the participants pledged to promote the message of national integration at grass-root level. Earlier the participants were made aware of the festival of Janamastmi by president o the Club, Narinder Singh. He said that the occasion has cultural, historical and academic values. Narinder also explained the idea behind holding sports events on religious festivals. Sports Officer at MBSCET, Captain Manjeet Singh also spoke to the participating teams and those spectators. |
