| NC’s downfall in Kargil polls; gets only 8 seats | | ET's prediction proves correct | | ET Report Jammu, Aug 28: The ruling National Conference (NC) has faced the wreath of people in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development (LAHDC) Kargil unit elections when it only got 8 seats and Congress emerged as the single largest party. Congress party got 11 seats whereas five seats went to independent candidates, which is a big set back to the ruling National Conference (NC) in Kargil area, where it has been capitalizing on LAHDC seats as well as two legislative Assembly seats. On August 8, The Early Times had earlier predicted that NC will get a short in the arm in Kargil polls and it has been proved today that the anti-people policies by the Omar Abdullah government has led to downfall of NC in Kargil district where it was strong. The elections for LAHDC Kargil unit were held on August 22 in which around 60 percent people participated and cast their votes. NC was expecting to sweep the polls but people have seen their tricks of deceit at the time of elections and people voted against them. Around 180 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 26 seats This is very big set back for Omar Abdullah as he is the working president of NC at present and it was under his supervision that elections were being held. Now, all eyes would be on the independent candidates as both NC and Congress party will be trying to get those people on their side but at present NC has lost the elections and the party is all set to sit in opposition. It is all Congress party in Kargil and if the trend continues, time is not far away when NC will be wiped out from Kargil as well as rest of the state. This elections will have certainly an impact for the upcoming Parliamentary and Assembly elections of 2014, where NC has a threat of getting eliminated. Sources in Kargil told Early Times that people in Kargil are against NC and its policies and that is why people voted for Congress and independent candidates who can get them a better living and a respectable life. The Omar Abdullah's advisor, Qamar Ali Akhoon, who was incharge of the election process from NC in the area, has miserably failed and has led NC to downfall. |
