Jammu, Nov 20: Perturbed over delaying tactics of University authorities, three students, including two girl students today started fast unto death strike under the banner of "Movement for Justice" outside Jammu University gate, demanding immediate revocation of suspension/rustication order, so as to they would be able to sit for exams, which are schedule to start in the first week of December.The students were suspended/rusticated by Jammu University authorities, around two months back, following a clash in the backdrop of agitation launched by Gujjar Baderwal Students Welfare Association for the establishment of Gojri and Pahari Research Center. The fasting students including Talib Hussian of Law Department, Cathleen Kour of Law School, Marvi Slathia of Political Science and M.S Bhatti of Political science Department. Lambasting the JU authorities, the protesting students said that they were suspended/rusticated without any enquiry report. "An enquiry committee was constituted, which was supposed to submit report within week time but the same committee has reportedly submit the enquiry report after one and half month", they said, adding that now the report was pending with disciplinary committee, which has given fifteen days time to submit the report.Questioning the attitude of JU administration, they said that the administration is deliberately delaying the disclosure of report of inquiry committee, so that the students can't sit in the exams.They further added that the session of University would be off on November 25 and as per date-sheet issued, the examination would be begin in first week of December. "The JU authorities have adopted delaying tactics only to spoil our future. It is totally undemocratic and also against the statutes of University that we were suspended/rusticated prior to enquiry report", they said, adding that it was first time in the history of Universities across country that students were suspended and framed in a frivolous case of attempt to murder over a small trivial issue. They further said that even Vice Chancellor had not given any opportunity to delegations of several social organizations, whichever attempted to meet him on their behalf. The protesting students appealed Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, other cabinet ministers, politicians of all parties to intervene in the matter and direct Vice Chancellor to allow them for taking examinations. The main demands of the protesting students are establishment of the Gojri and pahari Research center in JU campus, revoke the suspension and rustication of the students, revoke frivolous cases against the students. |
