| JDA's internet connection becomes public utility | | Poses major security threat | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 20: The WiFi internet connection of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) office at rail head complex in Jammu is open for all and is posing great threat to the security of this militancy infested state.
Without having knowledge about the gravity of the threat of open WiFi internet network, the JDA officials are in deep slumber and are not taking any steps to make the connection secured for officials only.
Any anti-national or anti-social element could use this internet connection on his mobile phone or on laptop to send any kind of emails or get in touch with enemy forces within and outside state and country and can get away without getting caught. Any person using internet connection with an intention to harm the interests of state or country could be caught by obtaining the Internet Protocol (IP) address which is different for every internet connection.
But when such elements get open WiFi connection, they can't be traced as they will be using IP address of somebody else who has let it free for all. This WiFi connection at JDA office is open since long and no steps have been taken to make it secure and restricted for the officials only.
The JDA comes under the Ministry for Urban Development which is being headed by Nawang Rigzin Jora and a Vice-Chairman looks after its office in Jammu.
"There are possibilities that any body can misuse the WiFi internet connection like what happened in Mumbai once when a private internet connection through WiFi was used by some miscreant," said a police officer.
Sources said that there is no direction from government to any department to make their internet connections secured so that no one from outside could use it for wrongful purposes. "This is the duty of department of Home Affairs to inform all departments about possible threat but there is no communication from the home department to any department regarding these minor things which could prove fatal for the state at any point of time," sources added.
The JDA, meanwhile, is in deep slumber and its officers are indifferent to the possible fallout. |
