Power cuts, scarcity of water, blocked roads take toll on South Kashmir
Omar misinformed through Video Conferencing

Srinagar, Jan 2: In a bizarre development today, the Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag and Kulgam misinformed the Chief Minister about restoration of road connectivity and supply of essentials in the twin districts.
Concerned officials posted at district headquarters in south Kashmir, According to aggrieved people in rural areas of south Kashmir today managed to motivate the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah through video conferencing that everything was restored in South Kashmir after recent heavy snowfall. However ground situation has a different story to tell.
People said most of the rural areas of South Kashmir's Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam districts are suffering due to 20 hour power cuts, no drinking water supply from last three days and blockade of interior roads.
The details received from villagers of District Pulwama which include Nagbal, Machoma, kehleel, Satoora, Gutroo, Karmullah and keller said that in last three days they have not seen electricity for even a minute and all the link roads connecting these villages with each other are still covered with snow, besides woman folk have to walk miles to bring drinking water from rivers.
"Many Mohallas of Main town Tral are even without transformers from last many weeks, link roads are closed, and drinking water supply is a day dream and above all despite tall claims not a single Minister or official has visited in these areas"said one local Konwsar Ahmad of Tral town.
"All is not well in dozens of villages of Shopian as district administration is claiming since yesterday on some TV channels about the restoration of basic facilities which include water, electricity and clearance of roads as people are suffering badly due to scarcity of basic facilities after snowfall." said Junaid Andrabi one social activist of Pandushan village of Shopian
People living in rural areas of Shopian District who contacted early on phone said that district administration mislead the Chief Minister this morning.
The details received from people of Pandooshan, Kanjioolar, Pudsoo, Aadijan, Mandujan, Feeri pora, Gadipora, Turkawangam, Pinjoora, Pehlipora said that electricity was restored for the sake of it. "Link roads remained blocked," they said.
Pertinently the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah this morning through a video conferencing reviewed the process of restoration of services in South Kashmir.
In conversation with the District Development Commissioners and senior officers of Pulwama, Islamabad, Kulgam and Shopian Districts, concerned officials without having ground knowledge of things briefed the Chief Minister that there was sufficient stock of essential commodities and fuel including LPG in all the districts and was also misinformed that maximum restoration work has already been achieved and the rest of work is likely to completed soon.
