| Sham releases Dogri Book "Jangle Di Sair" | | Calls for collective efforts to promote local language, culture | | early times report Jammu, Jan 2: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today released a Dogri Book titled "Jangle Di Sair" authored by Smt. Sudesh Raj at a glittering function organized by Dogri Sanstha at Abhinav Theatre, here today. A large number of Dogri writers, poets, scholars including, Prof. Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha, Prof. Veena Gupta, General Secretary, Dogri Sanstha and Prof. Shashi Pathania were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the effort of the author for producing the Dogri book for the younger generation. He said the work of the writer will help the Dogri speaking people of Jammu region to know more about the language and encourage the children to remain connected with their roots. He exhorted the writers to work hard to promote the Dogri language and culture which is the rich heritage of this region. He also appreciated the efforts of the Dogri Sanstha for its efforts to revive the age old traditions and preserving the rich ethos of Dogra culture, said the Minister. The Minister strongly advocated for introduction of Dogri subjects in the schools from the elementary level as the language has been included in the 8th Schedule. He said the language should get its prominence at all levels. He also stressed that parents should freely interact with their children in local language to promote it from the homes. He said children must have knowledge of all languages, but mother language is must to carry on the traditions and culture and density. "We should make collective efforts to protect our rich culture and language for the coming generations as language is our identity", Sham maintained. The Minister suggested earmarking more slots for Dogri programmes in the local channels and Doordarshan for the benefits of people. He also called for proper marketing of Dogri books to create interests among the readers as also to encourage the writers. All the leading libraries must possess the books written in local languages so that more and more people can take benefits of these, said the Minister. In his address, Prof. Lalit Magotra analysed the book and appreciated the efforts of the writer for producing the book in modern style. He said the book will prove very useful among the children as the writer has tried to spread the messages about Dogri tales and old traditions of Dogras. He hoped that the book will be liked by the children and they will enrich their knowledge in the culture and traditions. Director Tourism, Soujanya Sharma, Prof. Shashi Pathania and Assistant Director, Doordarshan, Anjali Sharma also spoke on the occasion and deliberated on the effort of the author. They strongly called for intensifying the efforts for promoting the Dogri culture and language and honouring the Authors to encourage them. Smt. Sudesh Raj, author expressed gratitude to the Dogri Sanstha for the encouragement. She said she got inspiration from the great scholars of the region to produce this book. She also expressed thanks to the audience and chief guest for the honour. |
