| Prof Gupta seeks explanation for not holding urban body elections | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 2: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has sought an explanation from the ruling leaders that why the elections to the urban bodies are not being held even after, so many promises during the past over four years now. According to press release, Prof. Gupta said the local bodies are the part of the democratic process which is being stifled in this state where the ruling leaders have been seeking more and more powers for themselves in the name of the special states of J&K under Article 370 but it was ridiculous that they were not prepared to have elected basic democracies, not to say of empowering them. Referring to the awful and chaotic conditions prevailing in Jammu city, Prof. Gupta assailed the ruling leaders for putting some highly controversial officers to look after the affairs of the Municipal Corporation who are acting more as politicians rather than administrators and perform to their basic duties. A few of them are rather creating hurdles in the execution of the developmental works instead of doing their job by extending helping hand. Commenting upon the reports that the Centre has with held about Rs. 2063 Crores, earmarked for developmental schemes, Prof. Gupta asked the Chief Minister to come out clearly that what are the reasons for this sad situation and whether it was the result of the bickering between the ruling partners viz Congress and National Conference or due to mis-goverance. |
