| Congress leaves Omar red-faced | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 25: The consistent and hard stand taken by the Congress on not creating new administrative units solely on the recommendations of the Mushtaq Ganai report, which is reported to be discriminatory against Jammu and Ladakh regions, has infuriated the National Conference. The Congress had left Omar Abdullah red-faced last evening by refusing to succumb to his diktats of submitting report to him on Jan 24. It has left National Conference so frustrated that it has now accused Congress of cheating Omar Abdullah. Higher Education Minister Akbar Lone had told a Srinagar based news agency that Congress has cheated Omar and it was because of this that he (Omar ) got angry and cancelled the Cabinet meeting. NC is finding it increasingly uncomfortable to cope with aggressive posturing of the Congress. NC especially Omar Abdullah and his coterie were confident that because of their presumed closeness with the Gandhi family, they would have their say and way in the State unit of the Congress. "Omar had false assumptions about the party and the Gandhi family. Gandhi family stands more for the party than anything else. The State unit of Congress is aggressive only because of the green signal given by the party high command, which understands political necessities of the J&K Congress," said a Congress leader, Omar had sensed that Congress was not going to buckle under his repeated threats of resigning. It was also the reason that he had rushed to the New Delhi to hold talks with the Cong president Sonia Gandhi. ET had already reported that UPA chairperson firmly remained non-committal on the assurances and demanded raised by the CM. "Omar knew we were not going to abide by his diktat of either my way or highway. It was because of it, he had rushed to meet Sonia Gandhi. Now he had finally realized the functioning of the Congress party. And it's also an eye opener for him to stop throwing tantrums and abide by coalition dharma or move on to the highway," said a Congress Minister. |
