Udhampur, Feb 12 : Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu & Kashmir State branch organised a day long First-Aid training programme for newly recruited volunteers at Shivnagar, Udhampur. The programme aimed at enhancing the capacity of Red Cross volunteers and communities to deliver humanitarian services during disaster and health emergencies. General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Ms. Roma Wani in the welcoming message to the newly recruited volunteers said Volunteering has been at the very heart of the Red Cross since its inception in 1920.Volunteers are the backbone of all Red Cross activities, to run successful progr-ammes and for assisting millions of vulnerable people in need. She said that IRCS recruits volunteers irrespective of their race, ethnicity, sex, religious belief, age, and disability or membership. Roma encouraged the newly recruited volunteers of the district to implement the programme at local level and provide effective service when needed. She thanked Mr. Ajaz Sumbriya and Mr. Mehboob Mustafa for organizing the awareness programme and hoped for their continued support. Officers of Red Cross highlighted the history, fundamental principles and emblem of the Red Cross. The volunteers were trained for basic first aid, safe handling and transporting of the casualty, basic life support, psychological support, coordination mechanism and contingency planning etc. The training was imparted by the Red Cross Master Trainer M Ashraf Wani and Inam Un Nabi. |
