JAMMU, Feb 12: In a bid to cash in the support of State Congress, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today used the platform of Assembly to shower praises on the former Chief Minister and now Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad while taking a dig at main opposition-People’s Democratic Party.
The Chief Minister started his speech attacking Peoples Democratic Party for being absent from the house and said, "Wo bahar hi rahen, elections na ladain, main pehle inke shor se pareshan hota tha, par ab mutmayeen hun, Bahut kam logon ko yeh naseeb hota hai ke wo yahan (house) aake bolen".
Later on, the irked Chief Minister, in absence of opposition legislators gave a reference of Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, a South African Social Activist's reference among his own legislators and scattered BJP MLAs saying-"Don't raise your voice, improve your arguments", while taking a jibe at PDP leaders for their absence from the house.
Quite seemingly, with sole motive of further strengthening ties with the State Congress, the Chief Minister goes on praising former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in a style that suited him best and said, "Same was the attitude of PDP when Azad Saheb announced 8 districts- four each in Jammu and Kashmir in 2007 but Azad Saheb goes on stubborn on his decision and paid no attention to the objection of the PDP".
"Tab PDP ne 8 district ki mukhalfat ki aur virodh sirf isliye kiya tha key yeh faisla Azad Saheb ne kyun liya humne kyun nahi liya(That time PDP was opposing the creation of eight new districts and the resentment was not for the creation of eight districts but for the same by Azad Saheb)", Chief Minister said.
Speaking on the Article 370, while replying to a quest of MLA Bhaderwah and Deputy Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sharief Niaz, the Chief Minister made a veiled attack on the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and state leadership for December 1 'Lalkar Rally' of last year wherein he (Modi) had asked the Chief Minister to arrange a debate on possibilities of abrogation of Article 370 if it has or has not benefitted the residents of the state saying-"Main to tayar tha debate ke liye kahin bhi, fir chahe woh riyasat ke andhar ho ya bahar par wahan se koi jawab hi nahi aaya, Aur jab tak is riyasat main NC-Congress ka jhanda buland rahega, is riyasat se 370 koi nahi hata sakta".
Omar even dared Prof Chaman Lal Gupta regarding no possibility of abrogation of Article 370 and questioned him-"Gupta Saheb, Atal ji ke time hum bhi aapke saath the NDA me, us waqt aapne koi masla nahi uthaya Article 370 ko lekar, us waqt aap chup rahe (Mr Gupta When Atal ji was Prime Minister of India and we were part of the NDA you did not raise the issue of abrogation of Article 370 from state, you remained silent that time)".
The state BJP leadership replied the criticism of Chief Minister with a grinned smile to show their satisfaction over the reply of the Chief Minister.
