1.2 Lac Shivkhori Devotees visit Electoral Awareness Stall

Jammu, Mar 2: In the recently concluded Maha Shivratri Festival organised by District Administration, Shiv Khori Shrine Board and Tourism Department more than 1, 20,000 devotees visited the electoral awareness stall set by Election Department under ongoing campaign Jashn-e-Jamhuriat in the district.
The stall had electoral literacy material, pamphlets, pledge letters, and also posters, banners and photographs displayed which attracted the devotees. It was a main attraction day and night during the three day festival and more than a dozen officials engaged the devotees in electoral awareness.
The stall was established next to the yatra registration counter and attracted the attention of devotees who signed the pledge register and also took home the message of electoral participation. Many artists were also engaged to entertain the voters and also to attract the youth towards the electoral process.
The stall was designed and established by Dr Jagdish Mehra, Project Officer DRDA and his team of officials drawn from various departments. Deputy Commissioner, Reasi who is also District Election Officer lauded the role of entire team lead by Dr Mehra for imparting electoral literacy to such a huge number of devotees belonging not only to the state but many states of the country who visited the holy town for darshan at the Cave of Shive-Shiv Khori and hoped that ongoing SVEEP campaign Jashn-e-Jamhuriat will help in eliciting greater response in Lok Sabha Polls and promote informed and ethical voting. Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu, Director Tourism, Saujanya Sharma, SSP Vivek Gupta and senior officers of district administration as well as prominent guests also visited the Electoral Literacy Stall. Shantmanu who is also chairman of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board appreciated the efforts of district administration and shrine board for this innovative initiative of linking religious festivals with electoral literacy and hoped that it will go a long way in strengthening the democracy.
Vice Chairman Shrine Board, Rajinder Singh Tara welcomed the efforts of team. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Tilak Raj Sharma supervised the stall and besides remained present to create awareness among visiting devotees.
