| Mir's blistering attack on NC, separatists | | 'Exploiting youth in the name of Kashmir' | | Neha
JAMMU, Mar 2: Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) chief and Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir has again trained guns at the ruling National Conference and separatist leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik and Shabir Shah and accused them of indulging in "destructive" activities in the name of Kashmir issue. "People of Jammu & Kashmir have a right to live, but people like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah and parties like National Conference...create hurdles by engaging them in fights and others destructive activities in the name of Kashmir issue which is taking heavy toll on their development," he had said while addressing his supporters in an impressive public rally on Saturday at Tangmarg. "People should take the path of prosperity and development as they did in the past. Kashmir is a complicated issue which needs lot of time to be solved. Till then people have to earn to live. We cannot keep them hostile," he also said, and added that the parties like the NC and separatists have all along sought to cashed in on Kashmir issue for their "personal gains and they never bothered to address common problems of people". What Mir said could be undoubtedly construed as a blistering attack on the NC leadership and separatists. He made a valid point by saying what he said without mincing words about the questionable role of these Kashmiri leaders and the so-called Kashmir issue. The NC leadership and the separatists have never allowed peace to return to the Valley as they see in the peace their own destruction. It is a fact and the people of the state in general and Kashmir in particular are paying through their nose because of the divisive politics indulged in separatists and parties like the National Conference, which hardly focuses its attention on issues of governance. Mir did a right thing to ask the people, especially the youth, to see through their game plan and join the mainstream politics to achieve development. It was not for the first time that Mir took on the National Conference leadership and separatists. He has done it umpteen times in the past and supported the Army's role in the state in and outside the Assembly for which he has been earning the wrath of divisive forces in the Valley. He had even accused Sheikh Abdullah of exploiting the Kashmir issue for personal gains and profit - an assertion that had provoked the NC leadership to the extent that it asked Mir to quit the government. Left to the NC leadership, it would have shown Mir the door, but it couldn't do so because of the Congress's support to the Agriculture Minister. This episode took place only some months ago. Kashmir needs leaders like Mir, who say right is right and wrong is wrong, induce the youth to join mainstream politics, hails the role of the Army, show the parties like the NC and the separatists their rightful place and talks about development. |
