21 JE posts vacant, only 3 out of 14 AE vacancies filled
Power deptt functioning scenario in Rajouri Div grim

Jammu, Mar 2: Power Department headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself as minister has failed the people of state on many fronts with loopholes galore in the system which have incapacitated the functioning at various levels. Notwithstanding tall claims made by the Chief Minister on power scenario front, the condition even at the division and sub division levels in the Power department is crying for attention of higher authorities. The instances are countless but Rajouri Division is one such where functioning has gone haywire on account of shortage of high ranking officials of the posts of AEs and AEEs which though posted are far less, rather deficient as per the requirements on ground level.
In all there are 7 Sub Divisions of Electricity Department in Rajouri where the total posts for JEs stand at 24. The brazen irony remains that out of 24 only three posts of JEs are functional with staff on board and the rest 21 posts still remain vacant. Same is the situation with the higher level posts of AEs which in the entire Division stand at 14. However only on three posts the officers of this rank are working and as many as 11 posts of AEs are vacant. Out of three officers one takes care of Sunderbani Sub Division, sources said adding that the two others are looking after workshop and store respectively. Sources also said JEs are looking into IT related works of the Division which is why there is no staff working in the field, even as the requirement of staff is more at the field level.
In the 7 there are 7 posts of AEEs but on this hierarchy the situation is no different. Only three such posts remain filled and in some workable order and the rest 4 posts of higher level have remained unoccupied for a long time. The matter of a number of posts lying vacant has been brought to the notice of the authorities at the helm so many times. The concerned SE Jameel Ahmad is also well aware of the situation arising out of less, rather deficient staff at all levels which is affecting the overall performance of the Department in the entire Division. Yet no change has been scene on the ground as nothing has moved beyond what remains with respect to number of officials working in different positions. There is no response from the authorities at the top level even as it has been requisitioned by concerned authorities at the Division level.
Less staff at the level of JEs is not only affecting the recovery and collection of due arrears from consumers, said the sources , adding that it has also impacted the functioning as offcials so deputed for respective duties are not able to pay full attention to their own assigned works. People also suffer on this front as and when they face frequent disruptions due to various reasons.
When ET spoke to CE about this Division suffering for want of adequate staff, it was admitted with what appeared to be a hollow response yet again that some JEs are being promoted soon who would be adjusted against the vacant posts.
