| Kissan Goshthi under NFSM organized | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Mar 2: In order to create awareness and actively involve farmers in Central Sponsored flagship project "National Food Security Mission (NFSM)", a Kissan Goshthi was organized in village Seen Bramana, zoneTikri. More than 55 farmers participated & shared their views on vital issues confronting increase in cereal production in the District, as per the release. While inaugurating the Kissan Goshthi, Dr.M.P.Gupta, State Consultant, highlighted that farmers in general hardly adopt 20-25 per cent of the improved package of practices rather than in full in raising crops in J&K State may be due to undulating lands: scattered & small holdings <1 ha (67%); un-irrigated lands (74%); resource poor farmers (80%), etc. The release further said that in Udhampur District alone, 1800 ha area has been covered under cluster demonstration on wheat besides 80 farmers' trainings with emphasis on improved management practices were conducted in 2013-14. In the question- answer session, farmers posed problems related to menace of monkeys' attack on crops; availability of agri. inputs; fixing of market price for farm produce; scarcity of irrigation in the area and control of insect/pest & diseases in wheat crop, which were addressed by the concerned extension officers namely R.K.Taploo, SMS (Distt.Level); Himat Kumar, SMS (SDAO Level); S.K.Razdan, AEO, Tikri. Progressive farmer Som Raj desired that such events like Kissan Goshthi should be arranged frequently around the year to resolve farmers' problems and educate them about incentives under Government schemes. |
