| AIBCU stages protest, demands 27% reservation for OBCs | | | ET Report
Jammu, Mar 2: All India Backward Classes Union today staged protest demonstration in support of their demand of 27 percent reservations for OBCs in the State in accordance to Mandal Commission recommendation at Press Club.The demonstration was led by the State president of the organization Abdul Majid Malik in which a large number of the Union members participated. Speakers lambasted the Government for arbitrary distribution of 27 percent reservation quota of OBCs among RBA and ALC 20 percent and 3 percent respectively while only two percent benefit is given to OBCs. Terming it a grave injustice with the OBCs in the State, the speakers said that the successive Governments have deliberately deprived them of the benefits granted to them by the Indian Constitution for their upliftment. Addressing the protestors Majid said that all components of OBC reservation are dysfunctional with an aim to corner 82 percent reservation to 15 percent population of the Upper Castes among Hindus and Muslims. He further said the reservations in the State for Upper Castes among Muslims and Hindus is 82 percent and State OBCs whose population is over 50 percent have been deprived of it. |
