| Vakil seeks anti-graft body to weed out corruption | | | ET Report
Rafiabad, Mar 2 : Member AICC and Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today demanded setting up of an independent commission to probe into the disproportionate assets of ministers, ex. ministers, legislators, politicians and other public servants across the board as the investigating institutions like State Accountability Commission have become defunct due to the stay got by most of the politicians and bureaucrats from the High Court. He was addressing public meetings at Rawoocha and Nadihal Rafiabad in District Baramulla. Vakil urged chief minister Omar Abdullah to ascertain and evaluate the assets raised by all the politicians, ministers, former ministers, legislators, ex legislators and bureaucrats. "Let people know their known sources of income and put the facts and figures in public domain," Vakil said. He said Constitution of an independent commission will create fear among corrupt elements and they will restrain themselves from corrupt practices. The former minister said Congress can't be silent on corruption issue as it is the dream of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to see Jammu and Kashmir peaceful and corruption free State. "Corruption has made life of poor people miserable and government should leave no stone unturned in eradicating this corruption menace so that common man gets justice," he added. Vakil applauded the role of AICC President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in launching "a crusade against corruption and said that it was towards this end that Congress did not even spare its own people and leaders like Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan Suresh Kalmadi, Pawan Bansal and Ashwani Kumar had to face the axe. Vakil appealed party workers to prepare themselves for Parliament and Assembly election and strengthen congress at grass root level. Besides others who addressed the gathering include Sr. Congress Leaders Ghulam Nabi Shah, Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan, Pandit Brij Mohan Nehru, Tariq Ahmad Mir and several others. |
