Jammu, Mar 3: Universal Foundation (UF) NGO today demanded Leh lok sabha seat reserved for Schedule Tribe community of Jammu and Kashmir here at press club. Addressing the media person , (UF) president Dineshwar S Jamwal said that the unfortunate part about the ST's of state as the Schedule Tribes of state were not getting their due representation in the Lok Sabha of India despite the fact that they were recognized and identified in J&K for the first time in 1989. He said that initially, there were only eight communities which were identified as Schedule Tribes and in April 1991, four (4) more communities were identified as schedule tribes and according to 2011 census, ST's are (11%) eleven percent of the total population of J&K. "Indian constitution provides for reservation at different levels for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as these provisions are given in chapter 15 of the Constitution of India under Article 330 to 342 as there should be reservation for both Schedule Cats and Schedule Tribes" said Jamwal. Jamwal further demanded that at the political level, reservation has to be provided both in Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha. He further said that UF forward a memorandum to president of India Shri Pranab Mukharjee, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, (Vice President of India ) Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Parliament of India, . Meira Kumar, Speaker Lok Sabha of India, N.N. Vohra, , Governor of J&K State and Shri V.S. Sampath, Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India. |
