Srinagar, Mar 19: The J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) has said that 13 out of 21 vacancies created in Government Medical College Srinagar due to cash-for-paper scam of 2012 can be filled up in 2014 subjected to approval from Medical Council of India and state government. In the fresh compliance report filed in J&K High Court, the BOPEE has submitted that based on assessment of the merit position, only four male and four female candidates can be admitted in GMC Srinagar. "During the process of assessment of merit position, four male candidates and four female candidates have been already notified on 18-3-2014, asking them to give their consent for admission against the eight seats which have become available in Government Medical College Srinagar/Jammu, by or before March 25, 2014," the report said. The candidates have been identified as Manmeet Singh, Puneet Singh, Tapan Sharma, Gagandeep Singh, Amira Gull Bhat, Jeevita Raina, Munaza Yaqub and Tabeek Shoaib. "The remaining 13 seats can be filled up by candidates who are either pursuing non-MBBS courses like BVSC and BDS etc. or may not be, pursuing any course relevant to the field," the report said. "These candidates, BOPEE said, can be admitted in Session-2014 in Government Medical College, Srinagar, over and above the intake capacity subject to the approval by Medical Council of India and the State Government, as the case may be. "The opinion obtained by BOPEE from experts in the field in regard to the compatibility of BDS course with MBBS course reveals that the two courses may be same in some respects but having regard to the course study for the first year of the two courses, a candidate pursuing BDS cannot be admitted for undertaking MBBS course in 2nd year," report added. The report has been filed in compliance to direction by High Court regarding filling up of 21 candidates. |
