Jammu, Mar 19: As part of the month long activities held worldwide to commemorate the Women's Day, School of Languages and Literature and Gender Sensitization Committee against Sexual Harassment, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University are jointly organizing a National Seminar on Feminist Transitions on March 24 and 25, 2014. The seminar aims at deliberating over unprecedented broadening of feminist issues and practices which have moved across and beyond a number of established boundaries including geographical, national, economic, ethnic, political, theoretical and cultural. Prominent academics and scholars from across the country are participating in the seminar. Multi-disciplinary in nature, the seminar will engage with feminist perspectives on a wide range of social, cultural, theoretical and global transitions that have affected and/or modified feminisms identity, representation, activism and politics in the twenty first century. As part of the seminar an exhibition on Girl Child in India in 21st Century will be hosted by Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak and an artistic representation by a young budding artist of Jammu Agrima Malhotra will also be inaugurated during the inaugural ceremony to be held on 24 March, 2014. The coordinator of the seminar, Dr. Vandhana Sharma expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming response of papers to be presented in the seminar and hoped that the under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, deliberations in the seminar will make significant contribution in policy making related to women issues in the country. |
