Jammu, May 5 : The day long bandh call given by BAR Association,Jammu passed off peacefully but crippled normal life in and around Jammu on Monday. The bandh call was given by the lawyers body after they failed to break the ice with senior police authorities over the issue of suspending police officer who they claimed misbehaved with one of the lawyers after his two wheeler was stopped for verification of registration documents. The Lawyers had given the bandh call after suspending work in the court for almost two weeks now.During the bandh several prominent educational institutions remained closed and transport remained off the busy city roads. The old city area and main city centres wore a deserted look through out the day. Buoyed over the response of the people in support of their bandh call the Bar Association, while expressing their gratitude to the various political and social, business organisations, gave 72 hour long ultimatum to senior police authorities to take strict action against the police officer. Addressing a media conference in the High court premises on Monday evening lawyers body claimed if the police authorities failed to take concrete action against the officer they would further intensify their stir by giving indefinite bandh call in support of their demand. |
