BARAMULLA, May 5 : election campaign came to an end for the 1-Baramulla Kupwara parliamentary seat of north Kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir for which polling is to be held on May 7. Although 15 candidates are in the fray for the lok sabha seat spread over 15 assembly segments in three districts, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara in North Kashmir. The contest is expected to be a direct fight between ruling national conference-congress alliance candidate Sharif Ud-Din Shariq and Peoples Democratic Party leader and former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussian Beigh. Both the parties campaigned extensively with various leaders addressing several rallies in the constituency considered to be a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party. The PDP Candidate Muzaffar Hussian Beigh, Mufti Mohammad Sayed, and Party president Mehbooba Mufti organized large rallies and road shows to woo the voters across North Kashmir. While as the NC Candidate Sharif Ud-Din Shariq, Farooq Abdullha and chief Minister Omar Abdullha and Saif Ud Din Soz of congress organized rallies and road show to gain the voters attention towards their candidate. According to reports, in all, the candidates and their campaigners conducted 53 election rallies and road shows till 6.00 pm today, when the campaigning came to an end. However militants have also threaten over for poll boycott and have pasted their anti election posters at various places in north Kashmir Kupwara, Bandipora and mostly in Baramulla district. The separatists also campaigned for poll boycott in various parts of the constituency before the authorities put a curb on their activities. In view of the possible violence during polls the security agencies have classified the Baramulla parliamentary constituencies' seat consists 1190766 voters including 622632 male and 566460 female voters would be exercising their franchise across the Constituency. This includes 583753 voters of Baramulla, 211967 voters of Bandipora and 393400 voters of Kupwara districts. There are 18257 migrant voters included in these figures spread over the three districts of Baramulla 8307, Kupwara 8468 and Bandipora 1482. Out of 1616 polling stations in the constituency, 1018 have been declared as hypersensitive and 498 sensitive. Meanwhile to facilitate these voters to exercise their franchise, 1616 polling booths have been set up across the constituency at 1303 locations. This includes 822 polling booths in Baramulla district, 531 polling booths in Kupwara district and 263 in Bandipora district. |
