ABVP rues JU's nonchalance towards students' grievances

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 5 : Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (JU Unit) has denounced Jammu University for enhancing hostel fees by 85% as according to Jammu university statutes, only 10-15% of the hostel fees can be hiked per year so the university authorities have violated the statute provisions.
Various students have been charged different fees on the basis of their links with the administration which is discriminatory in nature with the student community so, JU authorities are promoting favoritism in the varsity.
Ashwani Sharma (President ABVP JU)addressing the media on the occasion said that, Jammu university students along with ABVP activists raised the issue for the first time before vice chancellor on 13th March 2014 but the VC refused to solve the issue, although he admitted the fault on part of the administration.
"We continued our protest against illogical and irrational fee hike and tried to meet the VC but all in vain. The VC was not ready to take any concern of the students' genuine demands.
Today our agitation has entered 54th day, but there seems to be no solution to our issues by the VC. It's a matter of shame for JU administration that instead of solving our genuine issues they framed chargesheets against some of our students to harass them and suppress the movement by adopting cheap tactics. We also condemn the statement given by the Jammu university authorities terming our claims as false and baseless . We want to remind Jammu University authorities that we have all evidences like RTI replies, fees receipts, videos recordings supporting the fraud and embezzlement that took place in hostel fees. We have also given a copy of all these to the media and soon these will reach the common students and people. The Vice Chancellor is totally adamant and dictatorial in approach and is ignoring the students genuine demands by saying that the students are politically motivated," said Ashwani Sharma.
The matter of fact is that the vice chancellor has failed to run the administration of Jammu university and it is proved that he is acting under the influence of particular political group to get his extension of vice chancellorship.
He further said it is not only the hostel fee that has been enhanced but also JUET form fee, revaluation fee, rechecking fee, examination fee etc has also being enhanced arbitrarily without taking into consultation the common students who are immediate and ultimate sufferers.
He further warned the vice chancellor to immediate roll back in hostel fee hike and constitute an inquiry committee which is free and fair to enquire about the embezzlement in the hostel fees. Otherwise the agitation will take a different turn and vice chancellor will be fully responsible for the consequences.
Others present on the occasion were Bhavishya Sudan , Amit Kumar , Vishal , Sanjay Singh and many others.
