PC to keep NC-PDP on tenterhooks
Baramulla locked in triangular battle

Early Times Report

Baramulla, May 5: Baramulla- Kupwara Lok Sabha Constituency the campaigning for which ended here this evening has been entangled in an interesting triangular contest.
The presence of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) candidate Salam- ud -Din Bijad has made the contest more interesting and posed a nagging challenge to both NC- Congress alliance candidate Sharif- ud- Din Sharik who is also the sitting MP and PDP candidate and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig.
Though PDP is riding on anti incumbency factor and wrong policies of both union as well as State Government accusing them of misgovernance and wrong policies, the PC is blaming both the opponents for the situation and mass unrest in Kashmir. PC candidate belonging to Gujjar community is banking on over 3 lakh Gujjar votes in the constituency . Moreover the Party supremo Sajjad Gani Lone wields great influence in Handwara belt of Kupwara district of North Kashmir and as per sources the Party can get a sizable number of votes in the belt which can hit the prospects of both alliance as well as PDP candidates. Sources said division of opposition votes can also make a smooth sail for alliance candidate in this constituency. Moreover if Gujjars in majority vote for PC and it also gets a good chunk of votes in Handwara and Langate Assembly segments the victory of its candidate also cannot be ruled out.
The failure of opposition Parties PDP and PC to field a joint candidate in this constituency is considered an edge for NC- Congress candidate by political Pandits. Though only two days are left for polls, all the three parties are trying to influence voters through door to door campaign. PDP is also banking on migrant vote but unfortunately out of 30,000 migrant votes only few thousand have filled up their M- Forms. Otherwise the migrant votes could have also proved decisive in this Lok Sabha constituency. Still hoping against hope PDP candidate M H Baig through the video conferencing has made a last bid to woo migrant voters appealing them to vote in his favour to keep the secular credentials of Kashmir alive.
