| BGSBU Dean lists grievance with DC Rajouri over dilapidated road | | | Early Times Report
rajouri, May 5: Prof Mohd Asghar, Dean School of Mathematical Sciences and Engineering (MS&E) and Principal of College of Engineering and Technology (COET) has lodged a strong protest with the Deputy Commissioner , Rajouri over the dilapidated condition of 8 kilometer road leading to Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU). He also intimated the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of J&K state about the miserable condition of road leading to the university and also requested them to instruct the concerned authorities for their immediate action in this matter. "BGSBU road from Rajouri city is in miserable condition and the concerned department is not serious to repair it which has become a big headache for thousands of students, nearby villagers and BGSBU staff who are using the road on daily basis" said Prof Asghar. In his letter to Hemant Kumar Sharma , Deputy Commissioner Prof Asghar has said that BGSBU has been facing with great challenges even then the University is striving hard to provide the students new opportunities relating to technologies that are improving the ways in which knowledge can be produced, managed, disseminated, accessed and controlled. He added that at the same time the University has been facing a big challenge and difficulty of a basic amenity of good road. BGSBU was established in the year 2005 a link road was constructed to provide a means of transportation to students and people of adjoining rural areas. "But due to poor maintenance by the PWD the condition of the road has become very miserable which is catering to the need of thousands of students, faculty, other employees and people of adjoining 4-5 villages" said Prof Asgar. He further said,"Lots of pits & patches have been created because of spells of rainfall and these fatal pits & patches are sufficient to cause severe accidents any time". Whenever there is rain it is really a mess to cross through these pits & patches that turned into dirty, foul-smelling ponds and causing great damage to the vehicles ply on this road. Minor maintenance is often neglected because of lack of funds, but it is also neglected because there is little political capital or mileage in maintaining roads regularly, as the results of minor maintenance is not highly visible. Expressing anguish over overloading, Prof Asghar said that because of its condition there is scarcity of public and private transport, which has been resulting in huge overloading on private passenger vehicles and Traffic Police seldom takes any action against these drivers due to reason better known to them. He said that because of the limited transport facilities students aren't making to the classes in time and remain absent. The deteriorated condition of the road is adding salt on to their wounds. Prof Asghar has also informed Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Commissioner Secretary Public Works Department, Chief Engineer PWD and Executive Engineer PWD Rajouri for immediate repair of BGSBU roads. He has expressed displeasure over the work of R&B on BGSB University road. "We will look into the matter on priority and soon the funds will be provided for the maintenance of the link road leading to BGSBU" said Deputy Commissioner Hemant Kumar Sharma. |
