| Search continues to fish out body of drowned student | | 'Drowning incident' sparks debate, administration flayed for failing 'preventive step' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 5: A day after the incident of drowning of two students in the river Tawi, the negligence on the part of administration has become talk of the town as the Jammu administration utterly has failed to follow the recommendations suggested by the police two months ago i.e. to install a mesh/net grid against the deep side in river Tawi that too before the tourist season. Informed sources said that the wing of state's intelligence agency recommended safety net at the Har Ki Pouri besides replace of ITBP with the Jammu and Kashmir police to the state administration. "The recommendation was given keeping in view the ongoing summer which forced the people to have a dip to beat the heat", a senior police officer said. Pertinent to mention here that two students from School of Architecture and Planning New Delhi drowned in the river Tawi on Sunday, while taking dip at Har-Ki-Pouri. The deceased have been identified as Amit Tiwari of Varanasi Uttar Pradesh and Rakesh Kumar of Jaipur Rajasthan. "Though the body of the Amit Tiwari was fished out on Sunday but the efforts are on to fish out the other body, police sources said, adding that divers team resumed its search operation with the breaking of dawn today and efforts were on till dusk today. According to police reports, a group of eight youth after returning from Vaishno Devi went to Hari-ki-Pouri to take bath, wherein Amit and Rakesh suddenly were caught in a fast current of water and took them towards deep water, and later were drowned. After the incident, police team and SDRF launched search operation fished out Amit's body, while that of Rakesh could not be traced when last reports came in. However the search is on. A case in this connection has been registered for further investigation. |
