Srinagar, May 5: Traffic on Srinagar Airport road was disrupted for several hours due to protests against the water shortage in Alochi Bagh and adjoining areas.
Women took to the streets at Alochi Bagh and closed the main Airport road, alleging that there has been acute shortage of water in their areas.
Despite repeated assurances by the Water Works Department (WWD) that water supply will improve, nothing has been done during all these years.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying security force personnel, got stranded on the road as the protestors refused to allow any vehicle, raising slogans against the WWD.
Later senior police and civil officials assured that the matter will be taken to higher authorities, traffic was allowed. |
