Civil secretariat, seat of state government starts functioning

Srinagar, May 5: Civil secretariat, the seat of the government, including the office of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his cabinet colleagues and top bureaucrats started functioning from summer capital, Srinagar, from today.
However, due to Model Code of Conduct (MCC) there was no media interaction this time on the opening of the Darbar Move offices here. Even mediapersons were not allowed to enter the secretariat complex.
Abdullah and his other cabinet colleagues attended their offices on the opening day.
A large number of security force and state police personnel were deployed on entire route decorated with flowers, which was used by VIPs to reach civil secretariat.
The move offices were closed at Jammu, winter capital in on April 25 after functioning from there during winter months as Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in the country which has two state capitals.
However, the offices shifts to Jammu when people in the Kashmir valley face harsh winter. Similarly in summer when the temperature goes above 40 degrees, government functions from Kashmir.
Abdullah has suggested a number of times that seat of the government should remain in Jammu and Srinagar when people need it more.
Darbar Move, more than a century old practice, costs several hundred crores of rupees to government annually.
Employees, putting in government accommodation and other hotels under heavy security bandobast were taken to their respective offices in State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses under security cover.Civil secretariat, seat of state government starts functioning
