| Police arrest 3 JKLF workers for poll boycott campaign | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, May 5: Prior to Parliamentary Election for 1-Baramulla Kupwara Constituency, which is going to be held on May 7, Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested Hurriyat and JKLF activists from Baramulla and Bandipora districts of North Kashmir for distributing poll boycott campaign posters. According to police three JKLF workers in tehsil Pattan who were pasting election boycott posters in different parts of North Kashmir have been arrested. He said that a formal case has been registered against the trio. Police has identified the trio as Siraj-u-Din Mir S/O Ghulam Hasan Mir, Muhammad Jamal Dar son of Ghulam Muhammad Dar residents of Karhama Kunzar and Abdul Rehman Gojri S/O Abdul Aziz Gojri resident of Hardaboura Tangmarag. On April 11 according to Police officials that in past two activists of Hurriyat Conference (G) were arrested by a police team of Sheeri police station while installing posters depicting poll boycott slogans from Sheeri to Hewan some 7 kilometers from main town Baramulla on Thursday evening. Official Sources identified the arrested as Bashir Ahmad Soleah son of Ghulam Mohammad Soleah of KanliBagh and Ghulam Mohammad Bangi son of Ghulam Ahmad Bangi of Ganaie Hamam old Town in Baramulla. The duo according to sources are strong supporters of Hurriyat Conference (G), lead by Hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who had called for boycott for both upcoming parliamentary elections and Assembly elections in state. On April 28, Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested a 'youth' and seized an autorikshaw carrying anti-election posters in North Kashmir's Bandipora district on Monday. According to police on a specific input police and Special Operation Group (SOG) established a check point in the district and detained Abid Farooq, resident of Qazipora. The youth was in an auto rikshaw and was carrying election boycott posters of Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Geelani. "Police have arrested him as well as seized anti lection material and auto," police have registered a case in this incident and investigations have been taken up. |
