Kishtwar, May 5: In a fit of rage, a driver of private commercial vehicle in Dool area of Kishtwar District today infuriated over students demand of proper transportation facility during school hours made a futile bid to run over the protesting students. Later the driver also attacked a student with knife (Khokkri) and injured his hand. "The accused driver identified as Jalees Malik of Malik Pura Dool attacked one student identified as Imran Hussain son of Mohammad Iqbal Malla resident of Malpura Dool injuring his hand. Earlier he also had tried to run over the protestors in which three students received minor injuries," sources said. As per the details available with "Early Times" nearly 100 students studying in different schools of Kishtwar today block Kishtwar-Padder road at Dool some 12 KM from Kishtwar demanding proper transportation facility for school goers. The protesting students alleged that transporters did not pick students as they pay half fare under rules issued from authorities of transport department and the drivers do not bother to pick the students. "Instead of charging 50% fare from them as per the government rules, these transporters plying on this route charge them full fare, they alleged and added that most of times the drivers don't halt for students making them late to reach to school and the homes as well. Protesting students also alleged despite repeated request to the transporters and civil authorities, the issue yet has not addressed till date forcing the students to choose agitating path. A large number of students from all age groups participated in this protest and during protest the vehicular movement on this route also remains suspended. Meanwhile an angry driver who was stopped by the protesting student tried to run over his vehicle on students sitting on protest in the middle of the road as a result of which three students received some injuries. The driver Jalees Malik after having some verbal duel with the agitating students attacked one student identified who received injury in his hand. With the intervention of the police and locals, the injured student was saved while accused was arrested by the police alongwith the recovery of sharp edged weapon from his possession. However no FIR has been registered against the accused till last report came in. Meanwhile after blocking the road for over 4 hours, over some students reach Kishtwar town and held a protest march towards Office of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and called up on the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan in his office chamber. After giving patience hearing to the students, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar issued direction to SRTC manager to arrange special bus service exclusively for students during school hours. He also directed ARTO Kishtwar to look into the matter with regard to denial of picking up of the students by the commercial vehicles plying various routes. Referring to complaint about assault on a student by the driver, the DC Kishtwar assured that strict action will be initiated against the guilty person in accordance to law. |
