SRINAGAR, May 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today conceded defeat on all six seats of Jammu and Kashmir which NC was contesting in alliance with Congress. "I accept the defeat with great humility," Omar Abdullah said.
While blaming policies of party to handle issues confronting people of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar said that it is voters who speak at the end of the day and added that PDP very astutely analyzed the problems people were facing at local level while on the contrary NC was focusing on national issues.
Expressing shock over the whitewash Omar said that he was not expecting such one sided results . "I congratulate PDP and BJP and hope that they represent wishes of people in the parliament" Omar said adding that he had failed as the Chief Minister and left it on the party to decide his fate.
"It is my defeat as the Chief Minister, now it depends on the party whether it continues with me as the Chief Minister or not" Omar lamented. Chief Minister hinted that results of Lok Sabha elections will definitely have far reaching ramifications on forthcoming Assembly elections, yet defeat does not mean NC did not exist anymore in Jammu and Kashmir now onwards.
"Uprisings of 2010 and Afzal Guru hanging may have made an impact on which PDP capitalized." Omar Abdullah said.
He said that this was not the end of National Conference. "NC will not become irrelevant just like PDP didn't become irrelevant after their defeat in 2008 elections, this is a serious setback that we lost even in those Assembly segments which were held by senior colleagues of the party."
While expressing good wishes for Narendra Modi, Omar said, "Narendra Modi has got absolute majority, good luck to him. We will try to see where we went wrong. I will meet with my party colleagues and will introspect."
Indicating at tough times ahead, Omar said that 'keeping in view the results of this elections, the upcoming months are not going to be easy for NC-Congress alliance, it will be difficult to come back and achieve the momentum once again and added that his party will consider the decision of coalition partners in connection with upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
