India hit by Modi Tsunami in Parliamentary polls
5/17/2014 12:39:51 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 16: All those who had opposed the exit polls seem to have gone into hibernation. All those who had ridiculed the correctness of the opinion and the exit polls have gone under the quilt.
And the exit polls, carried out by various agencies including some electronic channels, have been nearer the exact figure that has been given by the Election Commission. All these exit and opinion polls had predicted a big win for the BJP and a bigger win for the NDA.
If the poll trends are any guide the NDA may touch the magic figure of 300 when during the time Atal Behari Vajpayee, led the BJP, the saffron brigade had won 182 seats in 1999 to form the Government.
Whether one agrees or not, the general impression in the entire country is that Narendra Modi helped the BJP to sweep away its political opponents, especially the Congress. And see the grace of Modi when he attributed his and BJP's success to the people of India.
"India has won! Good days are ahead," BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said today in his first reaction to the poll trends that indicate an impending BJP victory in the Lok Sabha polls." India has won! Bharat ki Vijay. Ache din ane wale hai (good days are ahead)," Modi, who is all set to become Prime Minister, tweeted. And instead of responding to cheering crowds Modi met his mother to seek her blessings. It was his same mother who had, during her blessings to her son when he took over as Chief Minister of Gujarat, wished and predicted her son to be the Prime Minister of the country.
Added laurels for Modi, who is contesting from Vadodra and Varanasi because his margin of victory from both the constituencies has been quite huge indicating that he had triggered Modi tsunami in the entire country.
What seems to be peeved staunch supporters of Modi is the way senior BJP leaders, L.K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj gave credit to the party for the unprecedented victory in the Lok Sabha. Both Advani and Swaraj are the most seasoned and talented leaders and they should have realized that Modi acted as a binding force that acted as an antidote to factionalism in the BJP.
And if there was any leader from the Congress, that was mauled by the BJP in the election, who displayed grace it was Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. Singh who had exhibited grace during the poll campaign, he maintained it even after the poll trends were made public. He maintained this grace while he was getting ready for submitting his resignation tomorrow.
In 1977 Lok Sabha election the Janata Party wave had gripped parts of the Jammu region facilitating a Janata Party candidate, Thakur Baldev Singh, to win from the Jammu constituency and the Congress candidate, Dr Karan Singh, bagging the Udhampur seat. And again in 1977 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections the Janata Party wave had not crossed over the Pir Panjal mountain range to enter into the Valley as the Modi wave had been blocked by the mountain range and could not cross into Kashmir. It, however, hit the Ladakh region.
Above all the Modi wave smothered dissensions within the state unit of the BJP. The BJP had been hit in Jammu when seven MLAs had been expelled for anti-party activities. Later five were readmitted in the party. But when Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, fielded his son Anil Gupta, from Udhampur seat one had fears that he may eat into the BJP vote bank. But the way Anil Gupta polled meagre votes indicated that leaders like Prof. Gupta could not stand before the Modi Tsunami.
