Early Times Report
Jammu, July 2: As the Prime Minister Narender Modi is arriving on a hectic schedule of the state on July 4, amid all necessary preparations for the visit of country's premier, enthusiasm eludes within NC-Congress coalition Government for political reasons. In its fag end of tenure and bracing up for Assembly polls with performance graph having reached lowest ebb, both the ruling parties are worried over Modi's visit coupled with certain announcements may snatch away whatever little prospects they have for the Assembly polls. The general masses in both the regions are on the contrary upbeat and waiting for what is in store in PM's kitty during his maiden visit to J&K.
Sources said even though security related preparations are going on in full swing at all the places where Modi is scheduled to visit in Kashmir, unlike such events in past on the eve of arrival of Prime Minister, vigour and zeal are conspicuous by absence in both the alliance partners. Neither Congress Ministers nor NC Ministers are showing keen interest to attend any function, said the sources adding that some Ministers from both the parties have decided to skip the function, particularly at Uri where Modi is scheduled to kickstart a vital power project. However, some senior PDP leaders inclduing former Deputy Chief Minister of J&K and MP Muzaffar Beigh will attend this function, said the sources adding that this has made Congress Ministers and NC leaders uncomfortable.
Sources said Congress Ministers from Jammu region are also apprehensive that Modi may announce any package during his programme in Jammu and this would benefit its rival politically and further push the Congress on a sticky path ahead of Assembly polls. A similar situation is being seen within NC camp in Kashmir as the leaders do not really wish PM giving any such package which would benefit next Government after polls in the state. The worry is more for the fact that both Congress and NC have realized least chances of this alliance again coming into power after 2014 Assembly polls in the state, said the sources. On the contrary common masses in both the regions are eagerly waiting for Modi's maiden visit to state and likening it to then PM Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to Kashmir when he made certain political announcements which are still considered as historic and have categorized him as a true statesman. Even though separatists have given ritualistic hartal call for July 4, there are no takers among common masses who are thinking of way forward in many ways and waiting eagerly for what PM has to deliver for the state.
