Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 27: To further boost the morale of the troops, guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, Northern Army Commander (NAC) Lt General D S Hooda visited the forward post.
Lt Hooda was also given a detailed brief about overall security situation on the LoC, where a large number of militants are waiting in launch paids to sneak before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall into Kashmir, where assembly elections are due later this year.
He also was briefed about the internal security situation prevailing in the hinterland, defence sources said here today.
They said the Army Commander was briefed about the measures already in place to foil any infiltration bid from across the LoC during the next few months.
Troops have already intensified night and foot patrolling all along the LoC to meet any challenge from across the border, Lt Hooda was informed by the field commanders.
The NAC visited forward post in Lolab in the frontier district of Kupwara, where he met troops.
He was also briefed about the internal security situation prevailing in the Kashmir valley, including Amarnath yatra, going on smoothly.
This was the first visit of Lt Hooda after union minister said in Parliament recently that there are intelligence reports about militant plan to target Amarnath pilgrims.
A defence ministry spokesman said that Army Commander arrived here and carried out review of security situation.
He said Army Commander was on his way to Udhampur after attending 'Vijay Diwas' function at Kargil, Leh yesterday.
Army Commander was received by Lieutenant General Subrata Saha, Chinar Corps Commander.
The Commanders updated the Army Commander on the conduct of recent operations
Army Commander's visit and interaction with troops located in far flung and difficult areas brought cheers to the soldiers and boosted their morale, he said.
