Jammu, Sept 4: In a talk series organised by Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), Professor H.B. Singh from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi delivered a brainstorming lecture on the topic "Patent Practice" in the Committee hall of SKUAST-Jammu, Chatha . According to press release, the lecture was attended by more than 100 delegates including faculty members and PG students of SKUAST Jammu According to press release, Dr. J.P. Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-Jammu while extending warm welcome to the speaker presided over the function where senior professors of faculty Dr. SA Mallick, Dr. Rizvi Dr. AK Mondal, Dr. DP Abrol, Dr Bikram Singh and Dr.SK Gupta were also present Dr. Singh informed that for igniting the minds of young scientists to gain the knowledge of patenting, newly developed Universities should organise lectures on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) by particular experts and incentives should be provided to the workers /scientists who file patent. He stressed for IPR cell in Agricultural University like SKUAST-Jammu for patenting varieties, value addition products of home science, tools of engineering for hill agriculture etc. Dr. Singh further told that China has filed more than 5 00,000 patents and is No. 1 in the world in filing patents where as India stands at No.8 with 18,000 patents, so there is a need to sensitise the scientific community and researchers regarding the patent practice. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by President Teaching Association Dr. Vikas Sharma and Dr. Sumita Kumari, Asstt.
