| Jammu Politicians performing ideological somersaults to stay afloat | | | Bivek Mathur JAMMU, Sept 4: Whether it was unexpected joining of Lal Singh into BJP fold who was captured in a video comparing Modi with 'Gangu Teli' and Rahul Gandhi as 'Raja Bhoj' or rumours of Prof Chaman Lal Gupta's willingness to rejoin BJP or recent hints given by veteran leader Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma in a press conference in Kathua to explore other options if denied mandate on Congress ticket, whatever is the situation, the sum and substance is politicians have no ideology in Jammu and Kashmir. Be it political compulsion or political opportunism, senior politicians irrespective of party affiliations are switching sides and willing to adopt the ideologies which they always opposed. Veteran leader Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma has remained a Congress loyalist and has served the state as Deputy Chief Minister with his key role in strengthening the party at the grass root level. Many leaders of today worked under Sharma but soar over disrespect within the party, he announced on Tuesday in a press conference in Kathua town that he is feeling suffocated in the party and if same continues, he will explore other options and take extreme steps. Similarly, two-time Congress MP Choudhary Lal Singh who defeated BJP stalwarts Chaman Lal Gupta and Dr. Nirmal Singh in 2004 and 2009 Parliamentary elections respectively and fought the saffron party's ideology tooth and nail throughout his political career, developed a sudden change of heart and walked into BJP's lap. It was the same Lal Singh, who went hammer and tongs against none other than Narendra Modi before Lok Sabha polls which is evident from a recording wherein he had abused Modi and called him a low rated leader but after dumped by the Congress, he wasted no time in embracing saffron. Contrary to this situation, BJP veteran leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta who has a strong hold over three constituencies of Jammu viz. Gandhi Nagar, Jammu West, Jammu East and Udhampur particularly has become the subject of round table discussions in the BJP Delhi as well as state for his contribution to strengthen the party in the state and same may affect his re-entry into the party fold though it is not hidden from anyone that it was BJP leadership which expelled Gupta and his six other MLAs for their involvement in cross voting scam. Then after a gap of over three years, five of the MLAs were taken back to the party and the sixth after over two months of the entry to the five. Now there are rumours in the air that the party is ready to take Professor Chaman Lal Gupta back to the party and he too is willing to join the parent body unlike Congress where situations are worsening for the veteran leaders and contributors. |
