| Deptt of Gastroenterology removes sewing needle from girl's intestine at SSJ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: Department of Gastroenterology Super Speciality Hospital Jammu, removed a sewing needle from the intestine of a young female hailing from a far-flung area endoscopic ally thereby avoiding a major surgery which could have otherwise contemplated to remove this needle. According to press release, on enquiring the history from the patient as to ascertain the reasons and circumstances in which this deadly needle was swallowed. The patient narrated that she intended to stitch something, took this needle in her teeth while searching for the thread which most of our women does as a habit, had an episode of sneezing thereby engulfing the needle in to stomach, she reported to us a week following the ingestion of this needle which was stuck by that time beyond stomach in to second part of the Duodenum where maximum up to this level our upper gastrointestinal scope could reach. The difficulty in removing needle in that it has both sharp edges which could have damaged the close tunnel of gastrointestinal tract while taking it out vis-à-vis the end of scope is also very sensitive hence had to avoid an injury to Scope as well so removal of the needle was technically very demanding. The message here is that we should avoid putting such dangerous things in to our mouth which most of us actually do. The endosopy was performed by Dr Shoket Chowdhary HOD Gastroenterology along with his team. |
