Teacher's Day preparations notwithstanding, Govt schools continue to underperform in Valley
9/5/2014 12:21:08 AM
Shakeel A Khan,

SRINAGAR, Sept 4: As preparations are on to celebrate Teacher's Day in the state, the valley continues to lack behind as far as the quality of education is concerned. The performance is even poorer when it comes to the government schools. Teachers appear to have taken cue from the doctors who pay their full time and full attention to their clinical practices with an intention to make as much wealth as they can. The coaching centres remain functional for the whole year in every nook and corner of the valley. Mostly government school teachers teach in them. These teachers have no time to teach the students in classrooms. The school heads also don't give much attention to this menace. It has been seen that education in most of the government schools remain affected for most part of the year as some teachers remain on leave. Some teachers remain away from schools in the name of ZRCs. These teachers lose the spirit of teaching and also they lose their identity and their expertise in the field of education, feel experts in the field of education. It is important to note that a government teacher gets the best teacher award despite the fact that his son is reading in the private school. "The government teachers have their children admitted in the private schools so they lack interest in teaching the poor lot in the schools where they stand posted?" said Syed Hameed from Srinagar, while talking to the Early Times. Though the government makes tall claims that all necessary steps will be taken to improve the work culture in the government schools, this dream can never be realized until and unless sincere people take the reins of the government in their hands, he felt.
