Jammu, Nov 16: With four points to their credit, earned out of two league outings on the opening day today, hosts University of Jammu (JU) men are sure to find a berth in the knock-out round of the All India Inter-Zonal Universities Handball Tournament being held under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on the JU campus, here.
Earlier, in the first league match, JU got walkover Madurai Kamaraj University. Later, in their second league match, JU defeated Pt. RSS University, Raipur 34-29. In the second match, Sahil netted highest 11 goals while star striker, Rahul Sharma added 10.
Now, in the third and last league engagement of group-A wherein four teams have been placed, JU shall take on Solarpur University, Solarpur tomorrow. Earlier, the tournament was declared open by Director General of J&K Police, K Rajendra Kumar in a well attended function on the campus this morning. He complimented and appreciated the JU for hosting such a big event on the campus. Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu, Prof RD Sharma presided. He lauded the role of different organizations for extending a helping hand in making the events on the campus a success.
Today's matches officiated by the technical penal comprising Dev Raj, Sanjeev Singh, Kapil Sagotra, Govind Ram, Gourav Sharma, Vikas Sharma, Karun Magotra, Kartar Dogra, Lakhwhinder Singh, Kaushal Dikshit, Priya Charak, Ashish, Prabhleen Kour, Pooja Sharma, Jeevenjot and Reva Rajput.
