Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 16: What could lead to the total rout of ruling National Conference from South Kashmir, its senior leader and only credible face from Anantnag, Dr. Mehboob Beg today decided to campaign for PDP patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed contesting from Anantnag.
Former MP and Provincial President of NC, Dr. Mehboob Beg who contested the Lok Sabha elections against PDP president Mehbooba Mufti from South Kashmir unsuccessfully, today said that he would not contest Assembly elections , instead would campaign door to door for PDP patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in Anantnag constituency.
It merits a mention here that soon after the Lok Sabha elections, Beg launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his Council of Ministers particularly, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather for their complete failure to connect with the people. Beg, on the death anniversary of his father and co-founder of NC, Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, had accused the NC led government for completely ignoring South Kashmir on developmental front. Beg had even said that the regime led by Omar Abdullah was discriminatory and had failed to provide good governance to the people of the state.
Beg had said that the party headed by Mufti Sayeed that draws its origin from South Kashmir will reach North like Jehlum river.
Though rumors were rife that Beg will contest on NC ticket from Anantnag constituency, however, he today laid all the speculation to rest when he announced to support Mufti in Anantnag.
Beg today said that he would campaign 'door-to-door' for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during the forthcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Baig also said that he won't contest the upcoming polls from Anantnag constituency in south Kashmir. Baig maintained that he won't join any other political party. However, sources said Beg will soon desert NC to join formally PDP. They said that Beg is in touch with PDP leadership for last many months and he would soon join PDP.
Pertinently, NC is now completely faceless in South Kashmir. Minister for Social welfare, Sakina Ittu contesting from Noorabad constituency of Kulgam district is already under public scanner for her rudeness and autocratic style of working.
